Where do we start? The short story is that Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecău went to New York, played some great tennis and won the 2017 U.S Open Men's Doubles championship. But we love stories, they are the very fabric of life and this is the greatest story we've had the honour to be a part of.
After a tough 18 months the pairing of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecău proved to themselves and the world that their bond goes far deeper than just turning up to compete. Handling the loss of a few too many close matches and relinquishing the coveted world #1 ranking they fought so hard to earn proved a growing burden. With athletes training to win, not just to turn up and compete, frustrations and tensions understandably grew by the day. Still they persisted, rededicating themselves to the sport and each other, pushing themselves in training, fighting for every point and learning to support each other on and off court like never before.
Then it happened.. revitalised, refreshed, refocused and ready to bring their world class game to the big stage the pair went on a 3 week rampage, winning the 2017 Winston-Salem Open before beating the #1, #4, #6 and #11 seeds in New York and lifting the coveted trophy on the 20th anniversary of the Arthur Ashe stadium.
If the story ended there, it would have been one of grit, gusto and greatness. But something quite magical happened in the legendary Arthur Ashe stadium after the final ball was struck, and we'll bring that story to you shortly.
